The Truth Seekers Journal (TSJ) is expanding its sports coverage to DeKalb County high schools, bringing game photography, athletic stories, and school spirit to readers across the community.
The new High School Sports section begins with photographic coverage of Thursday night’s football game between Lithonia High School and Southwest DeKalb High School.
The photographs capture the action on the field and some of the activities surrounding the game, including marching bands, majorettes, cheerleaders, and fans.
For TSJ, the initiative is about more than football scores and game highlights. It is about recognizing student-athletes, celebrating school communities, and giving families another way to share in the accomplishments of young people.
More Than a Game
High school sporting events bring together students, parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, alumni, and neighborhood residents.
While the athletes compete on the field, marching bands, majorettes, cheerleaders, and other student groups contribute to the traditions that make these events memorable.
TSJ plans to document those experiences through photographs and stories that families can revisit and share.
Photographs published in the High School Sports galleries will be available for families to download free of charge for personal, noncommercial use.
Creating Opportunities for Student Journalists
As the initiative develops, TSJ hopes to work with participating schools to provide opportunities for students interested in journalism, sports writing, photography, and digital media.
The long-term goal is to introduce student contributors to the fundamentals of reporting, interviewing, photography, and responsible publishing.
Student-produced stories and photographs would be reviewed by TSJ before publication.
The initiative will begin on a limited basis, with opportunities to expand as relationships with schools and community supporters develop.
Community Support Will Be Important
TSJ plans to explore community sponsorships and grant opportunities to help sustain the coverage and support future student journalism activities.
The publication’s goal is to make its high school sports photographs accessible to families without charging for personal downloads.
A First Look at Lithonia and Southwest DeKalb
The opening photo collection features scenes from the October 15 football matchup between Lithonia and Southwest DeKalb.
TSJ has requested official game statistics and summaries from the coaching staffs and plans to publish additional game coverage when the information is received and verified.
